terrenas-2005

After a 3 years of running away from the land I've always had a soft spot for I decided to re-visited. I've always said my body might have been born in New York City but my spirit was born in St. Domingo. Going back to St. Domingo was so much more emotional than what I thought it would be. Despite the fact that I had lots of fun, I ended up crying almost everyday just from the nostalgia.

Sunset In Las Terrenas...

Las Terrenas

This is Las Terrenas. About 10 years ago, this place only had very small tin made restaurants on the shores of the ocean. They were all so connected to the culture. The decorations were only local. The roofs were thatched. I just loved it. It was perfect. And the beach seemed as if we'd discovered it.
Three Years back this place had about a hand full of hotels, but it still had the bohemian small bed and breakfasts with the local culture still untouched. When I went this time I cried. It just wasn't the same anymore. Despite this the beach is spectacularly beautiful.

Samana Mountains

We were flying in a small cessna to the smallest airport I've ever known (El Portillo), in Las Terrrenas. There is a whole strip of mountains like these. They seem like a border between the North and South of the Island. They are smooth round and huge.
Flying over them to get to Las Terrenas made me smile a lot.
I felt like if I was flying over heaven....

Santo Domingo

This place is called "Tres Ojos" Three Eyes.
It is in Santo Domingo, the capital of Dominican Republic. It is a very beautiful place. The indians (Tainos) used to live here.
